Dry Embossing with Dies Technique

Hello and welcome to the Stamping with Friends Blog Hop. We are Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world. We love creating with paper and sharing our ideas to inspire your creativity. If this is your first time here, Welcome! We blog hop twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month and it can be a theme, home decor, gift bag, etc. So come on and look around and make yourself at home. If you are new, “Welcome!” or a subscriber “Welcome back.” Now let’s begin hopping!

Today we are going to be using dies in a unique way. We will be embossing a piece of cardstock with the dies. You think that dies are only for cutting. We will show you that you can take them further than die-cutting.

Steps to dry embossing with dies:

  • Referring to your die-cutting machine manufacturer’s recommended sandwich for embossing with dies.
  • Spray cardstock with water to loosen the fibers. This will help prevent your cardstock from cracking.
  • You will then use an embossing mat to prevent the die from cutting through the cardstock.

I have an older Sizzix machine I use and the sandwich I used is:

  • Main plate
  • Cutting plate
  • Embossing mat
  • Cardstock
  • Die
  • Cutting plate

Here is the card that I created using this technique.

Here is a closer look at the embossed image. I forgot to spray it with water; as you can see, the image is cracking. If I had sprayed it with water, it would have been a more defined image.

I hope you will give this technique a try. Now let us head on over to Candi Surian of Stamp with Candi to see her project.
